Our Journey
The South Enotah Child Advocacy Center, Inc. is a non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status that was established in 2016.
The Center grew out of the efforts of concerned citizens, law enforcement personnel, and child protective services professionals in Lumpkin and White Counties to better serve children who have been the victims of child abuse and to enhance existing efforts in both communities to prevent child abuse. Independent efforts to establish a child advocacy center were underway in each community, and when the two groups became aware of each other they recognized that their efforts could better be combined to serve both counties with one organization.
The combined working group that established South Enotah CAC and populates its board of directors includes representatives of the faith community, the Division of Family and Children’s Services, the Sheriff’s Office in both counties, Family Connection, the University of North Georgia and concerned citizens with a professional background in child abuse and family services.
The backgrounds and experience of these individuals made them acutely aware of the need for and the importance of a child advocacy center and fueled their commitment to this effort. Recognizing the value of the effort and the need for these services in both communities, the Enotah District Attorney’s Office provided the funding to establish the corporation and secure 501(c)(3) status and Carl Free, an attorney in Cleveland, contributed his services pro bono to create the corporation.
So much has already been accomplished in the time since our inception and we’re excited for the future of the South Enotah Child Advocacy Center!
